Reston has two Silver Line Metro stations, a dozen Fairfax Connector routes and the Dulles Toll Road, now cashless. Dulles Airport is on the same Metro line.

Last checked Oct. 18, 2026. Facts come from Fairfax Connector, the Dulles Toll Road, Washington Dulles International Airport and Reston Town Center.

Reston was planned around paths and village centers, but it sits on one of the region’s busiest corridors: the Dulles Toll Road, with Metro’s Silver Line running down its median. Here is how to get around.

Main roads

  • Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) runs east-west through the middle of Reston. Exits in Reston include Exit 11 (Fairfax County Parkway), Exit 12 (Reston Parkway), Exit 13 (Wiehle Avenue) and Exit 14 (Hunter Mill Road); see the toll road’s exit map. The road is all-electronic and cashless: E-ZPass is preferred, and drivers without it are billed by license plate and can pay at tollroadsinvirginia.com.
  • Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286), Reston Parkway, Wiehle Avenue (Route 828) and Hunter Mill Road each have an interchange with the toll road in Reston.
  • Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) runs along the Reston area; VDOT’s Route 7 widening covers the stretch from Reston Avenue to Jarrett Valley Drive.

Most numbered roads are maintained by VDOT. Current work zones are on our road construction page.

Metro: the Silver Line

Reston has two Silver Line stations, Wiehle-Reston East and Reston Town Center. Silver Line trains run east into Washington, D.C., and west to Washington Dulles International Airport. Metrorail fare gates accept contactless credit and debit cards, the airport says. Use the WMATA Trip Planner for times.
